The 10th ranked Oklahoma City Stars (14-8, 2-1 SAC) bounced back nicely as they swept the doubleheader with 17th ranked Texas Wesleyan Rams (16-11, 3-3 SAC) to secure the series win. In game 1 the Stars had everything going there way as they would win 24-0 over the Rams and in game 2 Oklahoma City closed out the series with a 5-3 victory over Texas Wesleyan.
Game 1: Stars Even Series 1-1 With Impressive Win Over Rams
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Oklahoma City Stars dominated this one with a 24-0 win over Texas Wesleyan. The Stars would have 9 extra base hits, including 5 being home runs on the afternoon.
Jake Patterson took the hill for the Stars in game 1 as he would throw a complete game shutout and allowed just 4 hits on the afternoon. Patterson had everything working in this one as he was able to sit down 12 batter via the strikeout for Oklahoma City. With the win Patterson improves to 2-2 on the season.
The Bats for the Stars put together an impressive 20 hit outing as they would be led by Cross Factor, who went 3-5 with a double and would hit 2 home runs (9). Factor finished the game with NAIA season high 9 RBI’s. John Anthon went 4-6 with 2 singles, double and a home run (1). Gunner Halter went 2-2 with a single and a home run (6). Tyler Williams would go 1-2 with a single. Noah Barks went 2-3 with a single and a double. Barks also finished with 2 RBI’s on the night. Peyton Crispin went 2-4 with a single and a home run (4). Jared Hazeldine went 1-2 with a single. Fredric Walter went 3-4 with 2 singles and a triple. Bryson Lierle went 2-3 with 2 singles for the Stars.
The Texas Wesleyan offense struggled in the first game as they would finish with 4 hits on the day. Dominick Padilla went 1-4 with a single for the Rams. Tanner Amaral went 1-2 with a single, to improve his hitting streak to 8 games. Joaquin Ballesteros went 1-3 with a single. Kevin Santiago went 1-3 with a single for Texas Wesleyan.
Texas Wesleyan Started game one with Jalen Evans as he threw 0.2 innings for the Rams and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits. With the loss Evans moves to 0-2 on the season. In relief the Rams called on Josh Brown, Nick Labbie and Ricky Arthur. Brown threw 0.2 innings and allowed 4 runs on 3 hits. Labbie threw 1.2 innings for the Rams and allowed 9 runs on 5 hits. Arthur tallied 3 innings of work and allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits.
Game 2: Stars Claim Series With Win Over Rams
In the final game of the series, Oklahoma City beat the Texas Wesleyan 5-3 to secure the series win.
Texas Wesleyan sent Jesse Ramirez to the mound , who would throw 5 innings and allow 4 earned runs on 9 hits for the Rams. Ramirez finished his outing with 4 strikeouts. With the loss he falls to 4-1 on the season. In relief the Rams called on Cameron Calhoun who would have a much better outing in game 3 as he would fire 1 scoreless inning and strikeout one for the Rams.
The bats for the Rams finish the series with a 6 hit outing as they would be led by Marcos Sanchez who went 2-3 with a single and a double. Sanchez would also finish his day with 2 RBI’s. Kaden Brown went 1-3 with a single. Tanner Amaral went 1-3 with a triple. Michael Higgins went 1-3 with a triple. Kevin Santiago went 1-3 with a single.
Oklahoma City sent righty Brandon Goldston to the mound and he would throw 4 innings for the Stars. Goldston allowed 4 earned runs on 9 hits and finished his day with 4 strikeouts. In relief the Stars got a good outing from Tanner Schoeninger as he threw 3 scoreless innings allowing just 1 hit for Oklahoma City. With the win Schoeninger moves to 3-0 on the season.
The Stars offense put together a 10 hit performance and were led by Dalton Reed who went 3-3 with a single, double and a home run (6). Gunner Halter went 1-3 with a double. Cross Factor went 2-4 with 2 singles. Tyler Williams went 1-4 with a double. Noah Barks went 1-3 with a single. Fredric Walter went 1-2 with a single. Dylan Taylor went 1-3 with a single for the Stars.
Oklahoma City’s INF/DH Noah Barks said “We started off the season in a rough patch where we weren’t playing up to our full potential, and we all knew that. After losing the first game Friday, we knew that we had to come out and make two statement wins Saturday to show everybody what we are capable of. Our team is extremely talented, and I think we also showed our character when we were able to bounce back and come through in the big situations.”
