In the NAIA Ball series of the week, the 17th ranked Texas Wesleyan Rams (16-9, 3-1 SAC) held off the 10th ranked Oklahoma City Stars (12-7, 0-1 SAC) with a 5-4 win in the series opener.

With the win the Rams end a two game skid and look to win the series on Saturday against the Stars. Oklahoma City saw its 5 game win streak get snapped on Friday night but look for a chance to get back on track Saturday.

Offensively the Rams put together 9 hits as they would be led by Kevin Santiago, who went 2-3 with a single and a double. Trey Smith went 2-4 with 2 singles and 1 RBI. Dominick Padilla would go 2-4 with 2 singles. Joaquin Ballesteros went 1-4 with a single. Tanner Amaral went 1-5 with a single. Michael Higgins went 1-2 with a single.

Texas Wesleyan sent Lefty Gabriel Sequeria to the mound and he would shine for the Rams. Sequeria fired 7 strong inning, allowing 2 earned runs on 8 hits and would cap off his day with 9 strikeouts. With the win he improves to 5-0 on the season for the Rams. In relief, Texas Wesleyan would call on Jesse Ramirez, who would throw 2 shutout innings for the Rams and finish his night with 3 strikeouts. Ramirez also collected his second save on the season.

Texas Wesleyan Starting Pitcher Gabriel Sequeria said “We are always competing every pitch, against good teams like OCU we try and find a way to win against these big teams and capitalize on mistakes”

The Stars offense finished the night with 8 hits and were led by Noah Barks who went 2-5 with 2 singles and would finish with an RBI. Dylan Taylor put together a solid 2-2 night as he would finish with 2 singles for Oklahoma City. Gunner Halter went 1-5 with a single for the Stars. Tyler Williams went 1-5 with a home run (11) and finish with 2 RBI’s. Dalton Reed went 1-4 with a single. Peyton Crispin went 1-3 with a single.

Oklahoma City sent the righty Aaron McGeorge to the mound and he would throw 5.2 innings and allow 5 runs on 7 hits. McGeorge finished his night with 3 strikeouts. With the loss he will move to 3-1 on the season. Out of the bullpen Oklahoma City called on Chris Bennefield and he was outstanding for the Stars. Bennefield went 3.1 innings and allowed 0 runs on 2 hits.

The Rams and Stars will play a doubleheader at Jim Wade Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Saturday, March 7th to close out the season series. First pitch on Saturday is set for 1:00 PM with the second game to follow.
