In The NAIA Opening Round Tournament the USAO Drovers (44-10) took care of the Arizona Christian Firestorm (39-20) by the score of 8-3. With the win the Drovers extend their win streak to 23 games.

The Drovers picked up a big first game win sending FR. righty Matt Merrill to the mound. Merrill would throw 6.1 innings allowing just 2 hits, 0 runs and 6 strikeouts. Merrill improves to 11-1 after the win. Miles Robertson was first out of the bullpen for USAO in relief and he would be face with a tough task right away. He entered the game with the bases loaded but would quickly get out of the jam with a double play. Miles Robertson and Rudy Gonzalez combined for the last 2.2 innings for the Drovers.

The Drovers offense put together a 10 hit game as they were led by Coleton Horner who went 2-4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s. Elvin Alamo went 2-4 with 2 singles. Ian Laureano went 2-4 with 2 singles. Alex Sanchez went 2-3 with a single and a home run (14). P.J. Garcia went 1-5 with a single. Luis Pelayo went 1-4 with a home run (7).

The Drovers are set to take on the Antelope Valley Pioneers at 2:30 PM CT on Tuesday, May 14 at Russ Carr Field in Santa Barbara, California. Both teams are riding 20+ game win streaks coming into this game and look to continue playing hot baseball.
