The 9th ranked USAO Drovers (30-10, 16-3 SAC) beat the Wayland Baptist Pioneers (22-12, 11-5 SAC) 15-1 after a 7 inning finish. The Drovers came out hot and never looked back as they put up 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning to get it all started. The Drovers would score at least 1 run in every inning expect the 4th inning.

USAO sent the Freshman right-handed pitcher Matt Merrill to the mound and he did not disappoint. Merrill dominate through his 7 quality innings, allowing 1 run on just 3 hits, 1 walk and 13 strikeouts on the afternoon. With this win he now moves to 8-1 with an ERA of 1.72 on the season.

The offense for the Drovers put together 12 hits on the day led by Luis Pelayo who was 3-4 with 2 singles and a home run (5) and 8 RBI’s for USAO. P.J. Garcia went 3-5 with 2 singles and a double. Miguel Lorenzo went 2-5 with a single and a double. Coleton Horner went 1-4 with a single. Elvin Alamo went 1-3 with a single. Daniel Lafarga went 1-4 with a double and two RBI’s on the day. Cristian Laboy went 1-4 with a 3 run home run (5).

USAO and Wayland Baptist will finish out the series on Friday, April 12th. The two teams will play a double-header at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Oklahoma. The first game of the double-header is set to begin at 2 PM.
