The 7th ranked Oklahoma City Stars (20-3, 5-1) handed the 9th ranked USAO Drovers (19-4, 3-2 SAC) 2 losses as they would win the weekend series 2-1. Game 1 was played Thursday night at USAO and Saturday’s double-header was played in Oklahoma City.
Game 1: Milligan Leads Charge For Stars
In game 1 of this big weekend series the Oklahoma City Stars would come out on top 8-2 after getting a great performance from pitcher Bryce Milligan. The Drovers would snap Milligan’s 34.2 scoreless inning streak without giving up an earned run in the first inning. They would scored on a RBI single from Daniel Lafarga.
Milligan would shine for the Stars throwing his first 9 inning complete game of the season, allowing 2 runs on 10 hits and would finish his outstanding night with 15 strikeouts. With the win Milligan moves to 5-0 on the season with a 0.41 ERA.
The bats for OCU would finish the game with 11 hits, led by Noah Barks. Barks finished the day 3-5 with 2 singles and a double. Tyler Williams was 2-5 with a single and a double, Elliott Cary was 1-5 with a home run (2), Quinton Walbergh went 1-4 with a home run (1), Bryson Lierle went 1-4 with a single, Tristan Williams went 1-2 with a double, Dylan Taylor went 1-2 with a single and Grant Harrison went 1-4 with a single.
The Drovers sent Jean Mutaner to the mound who would throw 6 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs on 10 hits to the Stars offense. Mutaner finished his day with 5 strikeouts. After the loss Mutaner’s record dropped to 5-1 on the season. The Drovers called on Brock Henderson to slow down the Stars offense and he did just that. He threw 2 1/3 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit to the Stars. Henderson would finish his day with 2 strikeouts.
The Drover offense scattered 10 hits on the night, led by P.J. Garcia. Garcia went 3-4 with 2 singles and a triple (2). Alex Sanchez went 2-4 with a single and a double, Miguel Lorenzo went 1-5 with a single, Luis Pelayo went 1-4 with a single, Daniel Lafarga went 1-4 with a single, Ian Laureano went 1-4 with a single, Coleton Horner went 1-1 with a single.
Game 2: Drovers Comeback Haulted As Stars Captured Series Win
The Oklahoma City Stars secured their second conference series win after the beat the USAO Drovers 4-3 in-game 2 of the series.
Jake Patterson toed the rubber for the Stars throwing 5 2/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits to the Drovers. Patterson struck out 6 and finish his day with 0 walks. After the win Patterson moves to 4-0 on the season. Tanner Andrews came in for the Stars and grabbed his second save of the season as he threw 1 1/3 innings and gave up 1 run on 2 hits. Andrews rounded up his day with 3 strikeouts.
The Stars offense was held to 5 hits on the afternoon led by Elliott Cary. Cary would finish off this game going 2-4 with 2 singles. Quinton Walbergh went 1-3 with a single, Bryson Lierle went 1-1 with a single and Noah Barks went 1-3 with a single.
The Drover offense put up 8 hits on the board led by Coleton Horner. Horner went 3-3 with 2 single, 1 home run (1) and 2 RBI’s for the Drovers. Miguel Lorenzo went 2-4 with 2 singles, P.J. Garcia went 2-3 with a single and a home run (2) and Daniel Lafarga went 1-3 with a double.
The Drovers started Matt Merrill as he would throw 2.2 and allow 4 runs on 4 hits to the Stars with 4 strikeouts on the afternoon. With the loss, Merrill will fall to 4-1 on the season. Ricardo Velez threw 1 2/3 innings for the Drovers and wouldn’t allow a hit or a run. Velez finish with 1 strikeout and would allow 2 walks. Rudy Gonzalez threw 1 2/3 for USAO, allowing 0 runs on 1 hit and would strikeout 1 on the afternoon.
Game 3: Drovers Win Series Finale
The USAO Drovers would beat the OCU Stars 7-1 in the series finale to avoid the sweep.
The Drovers offense picked up 12 hits as a team led by Daniel Lafarga. Lafarga went 4-4 with 3 singles and a double, Miguel Lorenzo went 2-4 with a single a double and 2 RBI’s on the night. Elvin Alamo went 2-3 with 2 singles, P.J. Garcia went 1-3 with a single, Alex Sanchez went 1-4 with a double, Luis Pelayo went 1-3 with a double, Brock Henderson went 1-3 with a single for the Drovers.
The Drovers sent Colton Williams to the mound, as he would excel for the Drovers. Williams threw 7 innings, allowing just 1 run on 6 hits and would finish with a season high 11 strikeouts. With the win Williams remains unbeaten, 5-0 for the Drovers.
The Stars offense was held to 6 hits led by Tyler Williams. Williams would go 1-3 with a double. Noah Barks went 1-4 with a single, Quinton Walbergh went 1-3 with a single, Tristan Williams went 1-3 with a single, Caleb Davis went 1-2 with a single and John Anthon went 1-1 with a pinch hit single.
The Stars started with Brandon Goldston on the mound. Goldston threw 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 9 hits with 2 strikeouts on the night. With the loss, Goldston falls to 3-2 on the season. Reliever Chris Goldston pitched 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 1 hit to the Drovers. Justin Berry in his first outing of the year would throw 1 inning and allowed 1 run on 2 hits.
