The (#11) USAO Drovers had the LSU Alexandria generals and the Doane Tigers in town for a weekend of baseball. In game one the Drovers battled the Generals and in game two they would clash with the Tigers.

Game 1: Drovers Hold Off Generals

The 11th ranked Drovers beat the Generals 4-2 in a competitive showdown. The Drovers improved to 15-1 after the win.

The Drovers pitching continues to dominate as they sent Jean Muntaner to the mound. He would throw 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs and strikeouting out 3 on the afternoon. With the win, Muntaner moved to 4-0 with 1.29 E.R.A. on the season. Rudy Gonzalez came into close the game and he also shined for the Drovers, throwing 2 scoreless innings, allowing just 1 hit on the afternoon. Gonzalez has a very impressive 0.83 ERA in his Senior season for USAO.

The offense for the Drovers collected 7 hits, as they were led Daniel Lafarga, 1-2 with a single and 2 RBI’s on the afternoon. P.J. Garcia, 1-4 with a single. Alex Sanchez, 1-4 with a single. Luis Pelayo, 1-2 with a single. Ian Laureano,1-3 with a single. Brock Henderson, 1-3 with a single. Elvin Alamo,1-3 with a single and an 1 RBI.

Game 2: USAO’s Merrill Shines In Win Over Tigers

The USAO Drovers topped the Doane Tigers 12-1 to improve to 16-1 on the season. With the win the Drovers have won 8 straight.

The Drovers offense put together a nice 10 hit game, as they would be led by P.J. Garcia, who went 3-4 on the night with 3 singles. Garcia’s strong play has carried over from last season as he is hitting .467 with 14 RBI’s early in the Drovers season. Miguel Lorenzo went 2-4 with a single and double. Ian Laureano went 2-3 with a single and a double. Daniel Lafarga went 1-4 with a single. Coleton Horner went 1-3 with a single. Brock Henderson went 1-1 with a single.

The Drovers got a strong start out of Matt Merrill, as he would fire 6 innings and allow 1 run on 1 hit. Merrill would also sit down 11 via the strikeout. He is now 4-0 on the season after this win, and has a 1.07 ERA for the Drovers. The Drovers called on Edgar Cuevas to close out the game and he did just that as he threw 1 inning, allowing 0 runs on 0 hits and would finish his night with 2 strikeouts.

USAO’s Pitcher Matt Merrill said “We’re on a hot streak leading into conference and we plan to stay hot”
