The NO. 11 USAO Drovers, (2-0) started the season on the right note as they opened the season with two wins over Our Lady of The Lake University Saints (0-2). The Drovers won the opener 7-4 and game 2 by the score of 6-3.
Game 1: Drovers Win Opener
Pitching played a big part in this game as the Drovers sent JR. Coleten Williams (1-0) to the mound. Williams threw 5 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and 5 strikeouts, including striking out the side in the bottom of the 2nd inning. In relief the Drovers called on SR. Rudy Gonzalez, who threw 2 perfect inning giving up 0 runs on 0 hits and sit down 3 via the strikeout.
The Drovers bats collected 7 hits led by SR. Alex Sanchez who went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 1 walk. SR. Miguel Lorenzo went 1-4 with a single and would drive in 3 runs on the afternoon. Jr. Cristian Laboy went 1-3 with a single. Sr. P.J. Garcia went 1-3 with a single. Jr. Ian Laureano went 1-3 with a single.
Game 2: Drovers Win Behind Solid Start From Merrill
The Drovers got a great start from Fr. Matt Merrill, (1-0), as he would throw 6 innings and allow 1 run on 2 hits. Merrill would finish his day with 9 strikeouts, including all 9 going down swinging. Fr. Brock Henderson came in and closed out the win, throwing 1 inning and give up just 1 hit.
The Drovers bats again put together a 7 hit game, led by Jr. Luis Pelayo, 2-3 with a single and triple. Pelayo also finished the game with 3 RBI’s. Laboy went 2-3 with a double and a triple. Sanchez went 1-4 with a single. Sr. Daniel Lafarga went 1-4 with a single. Laureano went 1-3 with a single.
