The Drovers have now started a very impressive streak under head coach Mike Ross, as they have hit the 40 win mark in 3 straight season. Tonight the Drovers gained there 40th win, after a double-header sweep over Bacone Warriors. With this win USAO now moves to 41-6 on the season. The Drovers beat the Warriors by the scores of 14-3 and 3-2.
In game 1 the Drovers would beat the Warriors 14-3, after a impressive all-around performance. The Drovers got a great start from Senior Jose Hidalgo, as he would fire 6 strong innings, give up 0 runs and only allow 3 hits. Hidalgo also sat down 12 Warriors via the Strikeouts, which ties his career high at USAO. The Bench was electric during his start, getting to call out “hip hip JOSE!”, after every Hidalgo strikeouts. After the win, Hidalgo moves to 8-2 on the season The Drovers did have to use one guy out of the bullpen, and that was Junior Angel Reyes. Reyes would throw 1 inning, and allow 3 unearned runs, and give up 2 hits. Reyes would end up striking out 2 Warrior batters.
The bats were ready to go in this contest, as they would put together 15 hits. They would be led by P.J. Garcia, as he would go 4-4 with 2 singles, a double, and a home run (6). Alex Sanchez would go 3-4 with 2 singles and a no-doubt 3 run home. Greg Barnette would go 2-2 with 2 home runs (8) and a sac fly that scored Garcia. Barnette would finish with a total of 4 RBI’s. Kenniel Rivera went 1-4 with a single. Coleton Horner went 1-3 with single. Henry Rodriguez went 1-3 with a single. Daniel Lafarga went 1-4 with a single. Stevie Thompson went 1-3 with a single.
In game 2 the Drovers would play a tigher contest, but pull through in a 3-2 victory in 8 innings. The Drovers did get a exceptional start from Senior Tucker White, as he would throw 7 innings, and he allow just 2 runs on 3 hits. White would also get his first double-digit strikeout game, as he would finish with 10. The Drovers would use one reliever in the extra inning, in Senior Corey Korenic. He would throw 1 great inning, allowing 0 runs on 0 hits. Korenic would gain the win in this contest, and move to 5-1 on the season.
The offense would be slowed by the Warriors pitcher, as they would grind out 6 hits. The Drovers 2-4 hitter would collect all the hits on the afternoon. The Drovers would be led Kenniel Rivera, as he would go 2-4 with a single and a home run (9). P.J. Garcia went 2-4 with a single and a triple. Garcia’s triple came during in the 8th inning, and would later score the winning run. Greg Barnette would go 2-3 with 2 single, including a game winning bunt single that would Garcia.
The Drovers after the game reconized 11 seniors, Kenniel Rivera, Stevie Thompson, Jose Hidalgo, Francis Ventura, Roberto Aldana, Greg Barnette, Stephen Wright, Henry Rodriguez, Mason Stasyszen, Corey Korenic, and Tucker White. These Seniors mean a lot to the Drovers, and will be hard to see them go.
After the series sweep, Coach Ross is up to 354 wins in his career at USAO.
