Following the retirement of Bob Stoops, offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley was name the Sooners new head coach.

Bob Stoops said in a press conference “after 18 years, when is the right time to retire?”

Here is what Bob Stoops had to say about why he trusted Lincoln Riley “He’s a motivator, he’s detailed, incredibly bright at putting together his game plan and his schemes, his play-calling, his feel for the game. Probably the biggest part I’ve noticed from day one is the ability to relate to players. Not just his offensive guys. He relates to the defensive guys and does a great job communicating with them and relating with them.”

Here is what Bob Stoops said about his future plans “I really don’t have a plan, exactly what I’m going to do. It’s a little bit frightening. But I’m a spiritual person, and until you open yourself up to something, you don’t know the opportunities that can come to you. We’ll see what may flow my way.”

Riley is now the youngest coach in college football, sitting at 33-years-old.

Riley started his coaching career at Texas Tech from 2003-2009 and then headed to East Carolina from 2010-2014 then came to Oklahoma in 2015 to be the offensive coordinator.

In 2015 Lincoln Riley received the Broyles award, given to the top assistant coach.
