Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops will retire after 18 seasons as the head football coach, Barry Tramel of the Oklahoman reports.
Following this change 33-year-old offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley will take over and lead the team this season.
Stoops leaves Oklahoma with a 190-48 record, 10 conference titles in the Big 12 and a 2001 National Championship.
Stoops also produced a pair of Heisman trophy winning quarterbacks in Jason White and Sam Bradford.
With Stoops out, Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz is now the longest tenured FBS coach.
